This has been an eye opening year that continues to expose pervasive inequalities in our society. We can no longer look away. The collective events of this year have forced us to take a hard look at our world and the actions we must take to make it a better place for all people. Pictured are two attorneys who began their careers as public defenders, fighting to ensure a fair process for those our society had written off. One of those attorneys left the practice of law to lead a religious life. The other attorney left for a career in higher education. Years later, in 2020, their paths crossed again and they marched together against racism and the brutality that can so often accompany it. If hindsight is 20/20, foresight must be 2021.

This year to me also felt like it lasted so freakin' long. These specific cactus in Arizona have been alive/growing over 100 years, which to me really encapsulates the forever long year of 2020, it was prickly and sharp, but it grew and overcame.

I think this year in word for me, was "Change" - there were so many changes in my life. One change that meant the most was my trip to Arizona. We called it "The Beginning" an opportunity for my family to start over with our lives this past year.

"Titan," man he was the best horse I ever met. He was so sweet, but only to me. He didn't like my parents and wouldn't look my way for photos no matter what I did. He was, in a word, a diva. After time though, he started modeling for the photos and would look right at me. He lived by himself in this desert area. He had a dog friend named Danny and some chicken neighbors but that was it. I couldn't believe that the Coyotes, Javelina, and other wild animals never seemed to bother him. This year was probably one of the worst years of my life to be honest, but one thing Titan taught me, was that no matter what obstacles, challenges, wild animals get in my way, I can overcome and I am actually not alone.
